For Immediate Release:

Torontonians whack some sense into city's future mayor

TORONTO, October 28, 2003 -- As municipal Election Day draws near, Torontonians are trying to whack some sense into the candidates before it’s too late.

The Whack the Mayor website, at www.whackthemayor.ca, gives voters an opportunity to hear the candidates’ wackiest answers to the hottest election issues, and then whack the ones they don’t like on the head. The candidates are asked tough questions about delivering on promises, dumping the trash, their past sins, and the kicker, “Why should I vote for you?” The answers are based on the candidates’ actual statements, but have been satirically enhanced to ward off election-night boredom.

Whack the Mayor

“It’s totally non-partisan. They dig their own holes. We just give them a little push,” says Franke James, the site creator and co-founder of The James Gang which creates content for traditional and new media. “The uncanny thing is that our Whack the Mayor poll echoes the official poll results, but who knows where it will end up.”

Results are based on the order in which candidates are “whacked”. At the time of this release, David Miller is the “last one standing” most often, and leads the straw poll. Tom Jakobek trails the pack and is the “Whackiest!”, getting whacked by 93% of all voters. See the current stats at: www.whackthemayor.ca/stats_show.php.
