The quiz was originally inspired by a news report of Mel Lastman jumping up and yelling at David Miller, “You say dumb and stupid things.” WhacktheMayor.ca was our first poll, then WhackthePM.ca in 2004 and now the 2006 sequel! It’s interesting that even though Whack the PM is satirical humour, the results are echoing the official poll results.

The poll results are based on 4,522 unique visitors, however the quiz has been taken 8,413 times — and shows no signs of slowing down.

Whack the PM also offers strategic voting advice on a riding-by-riding basis. It is based on an analysis of voter’s desired outcomes, the predicted 2006 finishing positions in each riding, and the actual 2004 Federal Election results in each riding. This strategic feature has been designed to help voters make the most effective use of their votes, so that the ballots they cast in their individual ridings can ultimately lead to the defeat of a national leader.

Paul Martin Surges!

TORONTO, Jan. 16 /CNW/ – TORONTO, January 16th, 2006 — Paul Martin has surged ahead on Whack the PM. The online poll and strategic voting tool, www.whackthepm.ca is giving Canadians more reasons to ‘get out and vote’ on January 23rd, and providing them with strategic voting advice on a riding-by-riding basis.

“Canadians across the country are relishing this opportunity to whack some sense into their leaders, and the poll shows Paul Martin is getting whacked the most,” says Franke James, Whack creator and co-founder, The James Gang Advertising and Design. “The real turning point came after the Liberal’s ‘Army’ attack ad. I think Martin’s weaving and dodging about the ad only escalated their desire to whack him.”

The James Gang designed the online poll and voting tool as a sequel to their 2004 Whack the PM poll that drew over 33,000 people. Whack the PM asks the leaders of the five top parties tough questions. Some of the hot button issues ‘New’ for 2006 are: Canada’s need for change, lack of women candidates and gun play in the streets. And some are a sorry replay of 2004 — trust, scandals and broken promises.

Based on actual statements made by the candidates, the answers have been satirically enhanced to ward off election-campaign apathy. With each question, voters respond by whacking the candidate with the most irritating answer on the head. Using this visceral and interactive process, voters determine which leader is most deserving of their distrust.

At the time of this release, Paul Martin is being whacked most often at 38%, and leads the straw poll as Canada’s most despised politician. Stephen Harper follows in second place at 24%. See the current stats at:
